The PGA TOUR finally attached a real sponsor and a real place to part of its coming 2028 map.
According to the TOUR’s official announcement published Tuesday, July 28, 2026, and checked on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Sompo has signed a multi-year partnership that will begin with a full-field PGA TOUR event at Silverado Resort’s North Course in Napa, California from July 26 through August 1, 2027.
The same announcement says the partnership will continue into 2028, when the event transitions into the new PGA TOUR Championship Series and relocates to a future market that has not yet been announced.
That is not every answer. It is more structure than the TOUR usually gives in one shot.
This piece is based on the official PGA TOUR announcement published July 28, 2026, checked on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. No pretending I got an advance copy of the sponsor deck and a private Silverado flyover.

What the PGA TOUR Actually Announced
The clean version is:
- Sompo becomes sponsor of a full-field PGA TOUR event in 2027
- that event debuts at Silverado Resort’s North Course in Napa
- the tournament week is set for July 26-August 1, 2027
- the partnership continues in 2028
- the event then shifts into the Championship Series
- the 2028 market will be announced later
That last point matters.
The TOUR did not say Silverado becomes the long-term permanent home of this property. It said Napa is the 2027 start point, then a different 2028 Championship Series home is still to come.
So this is both a placement and a bridge.
This Is the First New Sponsor Tied Directly to the 2028 Model
That is the detail that makes the announcement more important than a normal title-sponsor story.
The TOUR said this is the first new sponsor supporting the Championship Series that is supposed to launch in 2028 under the new competitive model unveiled earlier this summer.
In other words, this is not just a sponsor deal. It is one of the first real commercial test cases for the new map.
That matters more than the branding copy because the Championship Series idea stops being theoretical once the TOUR starts attaching actual companies, actual dates, and actual destinations to it.
Napa Now Has a Very Specific Role in the Tour’s Future
The official announcement gives Napa a pretty clear short-term job.
It becomes the host of a late-July, full-field PGA TOUR week in 2027, and it does so right in the slot where the current schedule has already started to look unstable. That does not formally mean every current late-July story is solved, but it absolutely tells you where some of the TOUR’s attention is going.
And because the TOUR also said the 2028 version will move to another market, this is not being sold like a sleepy permanent placeholder. It is being sold like an active piece of a larger redesign.
What This Means for the Rest of the Schedule
The TOUR still has not fully published the complete 2028 Championship Series map.
But the Sompo deal gives us a few useful clues:
- the TOUR is comfortable using sponsor announcements to reveal future structure
- late-summer inventory is already being rearranged with real urgency
- markets are going to be judged inside the new premium-event logic, not just by tradition
That is exactly why this announcement matters beyond Napa.
It gives the TOUR’s future schedule more shape while also reminding everybody that not every existing stop is going to survive the transition looking the same.
Bottom Line
The official PGA TOUR announcement published Tuesday, July 28, 2026, says Sompo will sponsor a full-field event at Silverado Resort’s North Course in Napa from July 26-August 1, 2027.
The partnership then moves into the TOUR’s new Championship Series structure in 2028, with the long-term market still to be named.
That is one of the clearest real-world signs yet that the PGA TOUR’s future map is no longer just a commissioner presentation.
